Yes, but in our daily lives and in our worship, we should not let Christmas intrude on Advent, which begins four Sundays before Christmas Day and ends on Christmas Eve.

Last week we sang "Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus,” a hymn of Charles Wesley typically reserved for Advent. This is by far my favorite hymn, for a number of reasons but in particular for its message. In this hymn, we put ourselves back into the place of the Israelites, hoping for God to send a king who would bring freedom, strength, and consolation. The Dyersburg Choral Society will present its annual Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 12th at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be held at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church located at 2280 Parr Avenue, Dyersburg. Everyone is cordially invited to attend this free concert.
Methodist Monday Meals will serve meals in December on December 16th instead of the week of Christmas.
It’s time once again for our mitten trees to go up in the church. Each year we collect mittens and gloves for school age children to help keep them warm in the winter. This year we are changing it up by adding socks and underwear.Read more ...
